1. HOW DOES THE REFERRAL PROCESS WORK TO GET IN TO SEE DR. SHEETAL SAPRA, DERMATOLOGIST?
Your family doctor/specialist will fax us your referral (905–842–3625) to be seen by Dr. Sheetal Sapra. Since we receive over 100 referrals a day we are only able to accept referrals by fax in advance of the appointment. This means that unfortunately patients cannot just bring the referral to their appointment. We will then make an appointment date and time and notify your referring doctor by faxing it back to their office. We will call you directly to notify and confirm your appointment date and time. Now that we are a fully integrated EMR (Electronic Medical Records) office, we will also request an email address to provide you with an instructional email on how to register on our online Patient Portal from home. Your participation in our online pre-registration process will assist us in ensuring your check-in experience is simple and efficient.
2. WHAT TO KNOW IF YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR/SPECIALIST IS REFERRING YOU:
Dr. Sapra remains focused on helping our community by retaining one of the largest OHIP based practices in all of Ontario. Dr. Sapra and our entire front desk staff remain committed to getting his referrals seen as promptly as possible. Dr. Sapra sees a large volume of patients each day, including patients being seen on an emergency basis as requested from other doctors. Therefore, Dr. Sapra often books ahead by 2–3 months. We rely strongly on our cancellation list to get patients in sooner if they have requested. Because of this large volume of patients, Dr. Sapra also relies heavily on his team of nurses to be able to see all of these patients. They are highly skilled and proficient and work with Dr. Sapra every day to keep the time it takes for an appointment as short as possible.
3. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON THE DAY OF MY CONSULTATION WITH DR. SHEETAL SAPRA, DERMATOLOGIST?
Whether you have been referred by your family doctor, or are seeing Dr. Sapra for cosmetic reasons, we strongly believe in upholding patient expectations. We are very conscientious about keeping any time in the waiting room to a minimum. Typically patients will be taken into a room as promptly as possible.
We recognize that your time is very valuable and take all the necessary steps to keep wait times to a minimum. It is important to keep in mind that patients in the waiting room are often there to see different doctors, nurses and even our clinical trials team; so it would be normal to see someone who checked in after you be taken first.
Once the nurse brings you in for your appointment, it is common for them to ask you about your concerns. They would then leave to give Dr. Sapra a detailed explanation of your conversation outside the room. Dr. Sapra will then come in to examine the area/speak with you briefly about your concerns and will make the appropriate recommendations. Dr. Sapra wants to ensure that he can meet all of his consultation patients and thoroughly explain his recommendations. However, to maintain efficiency and organization, it is normal for Dr. Sapra to have one of his nursing staff go through his recommendations and answer your questions in greater detail to ensure that you are on your way with an effective treatment plan as promptly as possible. However, it is imperative that if you do have any specific questions for Dr. Sapra, to ask him openly during your visit. It is sometimes helpful to bring a list of questions that you want to ensure are answered by either Dr. Sapra or the nurses during your consultation. Also, if you have forgotten to ask a question, the nurse is more than happy to have Dr. Sapra return to the room to speak with you again.
After all of your questions have been answered, (if appropriate to your concern and if there is time), the nurse or Dr. Sapra will perform the recommended procedure on that same day. Otherwise, the nurse will take you out to the reception to either book your procedure, or possibly just a follow–up appointment. Our number one priority at all times is to deliver exceptional patient care. This includes Dr. Sapra, our nurses as well as our front desk staff. Therefore, if there is something that you are unclear about or if there is anything at all that you need, it is important to let one of us know so we can ensure that you have a wonderful experience.
4. WILL MY TREATMENT BE COVERED IF I HAVE BEEN REFERRED?
As long as you have a valid healthcard your consultation itself will be covered by OHIP. However, if the concern you have is considered “cosmetic” by the Ministry of Health, your treatment will not be covered. The only way to know for sure if your treatment will be covered is to see Dr. Sapra in consultation. After assessing your concerns, he will let you know whether OHIP will cover your procedure.
5. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT?
We ask that patients please bring their valid healthcard as well as a list of possible questions to ask Dr. Sapra, Dr. Khanna and/or our nurses during your consultation.
6. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We are located at 1344 Cornwall Road, Suite 100, Oakville, Ontario, L6J 7W5.
From Toronto, take QEW West to 403. Take Ford Drive South, to Cornwall Road West. We are on the south side between Maplegrove and Morrison and are a large one level blue building.
From Hamilton, take QEW East to Trafalgar Road South. There are two intersections to Cornwall Road East. We are on the south side between Morrison and Maplegrove.
7. IS THERE A CONSULTATION FEE?
For Plastic Surgery and Dermatology consultations, there is a fee to meet with Doctor for Cosmetic concerns. We do also ask patients to provide a credit card number when booking their consultation, just to secure the appointment, as we do require 2 full business days in order to change these types of appointments.
We do ask that all patients bring a valid healthcard to their appointment.
The fee for consultation can be applied towards the cost of the procedure when booked within 30 days.
8. DO I NEED A REFERRAL FOR COSMETIC PROCEDURES?
No, a referral is not required.
9. WILL I NEED TO MAKE MY DECISION ON THE DAY OF CONSULTATION?
We understand that making the decision to proceed with surgery or cosmetic treatment is an important and individual decision. We encourage our patients to make a decision based on their own timeline and only book when they are ready.
10. HOW LONG AFTER THE INITIAL CONSULTATION WITH DR. KHANNA WILL I BE ABLE TO BOOK MY SURGICAL PROCEDURE?
There is typically a 3 – 5 month wait (depending on the type of procedure) from the time of your consultation with Dr. Khanna to the actual surgical date.
11. WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Interac debit cards, Cash or financing with Medicard.
12. WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE A PLASTIC SURGEON FOR MY COSMETIC PROCEDURE?
A Plastic Surgeon is a surgical specialist who has completed a minimum of 5 years of study and training in surgery after receiving their initial medical degree.
13. WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT THE INSTITUTE OF COSMETIC AND LASER SURGERY HAS ACCREDITATION WITH THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION FOR ACCREDITATION OF AMBULATORY SURGICAL FACILITIES (CAAASF)?
The Institute of Cosmetic and Laser Surgery is an accredited facility by the CAAASF. This accreditation designates that our surgical facilities meets and may exceed the same standards of safety and patient care as those required in a hospital.
14. IS THERE A FEE FOR OVER THE PHONE OR PHARMACY FAXED PRESCRIPTION RENEWALS?
Yes, there is a patient responsible $25.00 fee associated with prescription renewals approved over the phone or through a pharmacy faxed request.
