Thigh lift surgery is performed when a patient has excess or loose skin on the thighs and/or buttocks. As a result of natural aging, or possibly through dramatic weight loss, the skin loses much of its elasticity, which leads to excessive wrinkling and drooping of the skin.

A thigh lift is similar to a brachioplasty, where the surgeon will cut and remove excess skin and fat from the thighs and/or buttocks and re-drape them into a better shape. Patients who have lost weight and are between 15-20% of their ideal weight are the better candidates for this procedure.

Our plastic surgeon often combines body contouring surgeries with radiofrequency for maximum effect. Thigh lift surgery is performed in our fully-accredited Oakville clinic under general anaesthesia. An overnight stay is required for a lower body lift.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to recover from a thigh lift?

You should be able to sit comfortably one week after thigh and buttock lift surgery. Normal activities may be resumed during the second week and many people return to work the third or fourth week after surgery. Exercise and any strenuous activity can be resumed six weeks after surgery. It can take 6-12 months to see the final result of a body lifting surgery.

  • How much does a thigh lift cost?

Pricing ranges from $15,000 to $24,000. Contact ICLS to find out if this treatment is right for you.

  • Where are the scars for a thigh lift?

The incisions for a full thigh or medial thigh lift are made as high as possible around the upper thigh. The excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is draped into a tighter and more youthful contour. The incisions are made in the natural fold of the body to minimize any visible scarring. However, scarring does fade significantly over time and patients who have been plagued by excess skin are not often bothered by this.

Aftercare and Recovery

A lower body lift is a major operation and there will be some pain during recovery. The patient goes home with dressings on the incision sites, which are usually removed within seven days. A compression garment is worn for 4-6 weeks after surgery.  Initial discomfort is usually well controlled with oral medication.  Sutures are dissolvable and are trimmed within 7-10 days.
