Labiaplasty is the surgical removal of excess skin from the labia majora, the outer lips at the entrance of the vagina. Women may be born with large labia or may develop enlarged, excess skin with childbirth or age. Thick or large labia may prevent women from wearing certain clothes such as bathing suits, tight shorts and pants. Constant contact or friction from clothing often results in irritated, tender skin. This excess skin can also be a source of remarkable discomfort, making biking and exercising uncomfortable for women.

Labiaplasty does not tighten the entrance to the vagina, though at ICLS, we offer a non-surgical option for tightening called Votiva. Hyaluronic acid injections can be used in the labia majora as a non-invasive vaginal rejuvenation treatment to gently improve volume loss and give a more youthful appearance.

Aftercare and Recovery

Following a labiaplasty procedure, minimal initial discomfort can be controlled with oral medication. The sutures used are dissolvable and therefore do not have to be removed, though they may be trimmed 4-6 weeks after surgery if necessary. Bruising and swelling decrease to comfortable levels within 7-10 days. The final result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months. Sexual activity can be resumed 4-6 weeks after surgery.
