BBL™ treatments are some of the most innovative non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments available. Commonly known as IPL treatments or photofacials, broadband light (BBL), are laser treatments that have the ability to treat a wide range of skin problems in a wide variety of skin depths. BBL treatments are incredibly effective while being much more comfortable than other nonsurgical treatments.
WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL?
It is important to understand that not all BBL™ treatments are created equal. Both “spa grade” as well as “medical grade” treatments exist, and it is important to understand which technology is being used. At ICLS we only operate an advanced “medical grade” BBL™ system, which is performed by an extensively trained nurse under the direct supervision of Dr. Sheetal Sapra.
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
BBL™ treatments are an extremely effective option for patients with sun damage, fine facial wrinkles, brown pigmentation (age spots) and/or scattered blood vessels. Some collagen tightening and remodeling is expected with repeat treatments. BBL™ can be performed on a number of areas including the face, chest, neck, hands and arms. While these treatments are most effective for patients with a lighter skin tone, there are many other treatments including Yag, Derm–Eclat™/Dermamelan or Profractional™ that would be suitable for patients who have a darker skin tone.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Before each treatment, we often recommend for many patients a SkinTX™ skin care program. This preliminary skincare regimen is perfect for loosening deep and superficial pigmentation in the skin. This treatment can prepare the skin for maximum results with the BBL Laser.
Immediately before the treatment, a layer of gel will be applied to the skin for protection. Your treatment will then be delivered by a handpiece that’s placed over the treatment area. Most patients tolerate BBL™ very well, however, we do send patients home with ice packs to help soothe the skin. Patients can expect to experience the look and feel of a mild sunburn for approximately 1–2 days after the treatment. This procedure can also be performed during the summer months as long as the patient wears a high SPF sunscreen such as SkinCeuticals® Sheer Physical SPF and avoids getting a tan. Patients will normally require between 3–5 treatments to achieve the greatest overall results, which are scheduled approximately 4 weeks apart.
