Typically referred to as angiomas, spider nevi or cherry hemangiomas, these benign lesions are very common, especially as we age and after repeated exposure to the sun. They may be prevalent on the arms, chest and/or breasts and are typically removed for cosmetic reasons.

Angiomas are made up of a cluster of capillaries on the surface of the skin and may range in colour from bright red to purple. An angioma on the lips, also known as a venous lake, appears to be bluish in colour but may also appear to be red, or purple. They are usually asymptomatic, but could be painful, and excessive bleeding may occur if trauma is caused to the lesion.

Treatment for angiomas is simple. After a consultation, Dr. Sapra will recommend treatment of either Excel V laser or Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL), excision or cautery.
