Question – Dr. Khanna, how do you feel about all the media attention Kate Middleton is getting for embracing her “mummy tummy?”
Answer – Here are some of the joys of pregnancy that no one told you about:
After delivering a baby, wouldn’t it be great if you could go home in your pre pregnancy jeans!? Ladies…reality check; even if you are a princess, that doesn’t happen! It takes 9 months to grow a baby, and for your stomach to stretch to accommodate the baby. Therefore it takes 9 months to 1 year for everything to go back to normal. I think Kate Middleton looks absolutely wonderful and beautifully represents the realities of post-partum.
One of the most common questions I get related to the post-baby body, is can a tummy tuck be done at the time of C-section? The short answer is no, since at a year down the road many women will not require any surgical correction, so please be patient. You will look down at your tummy at 3 months after your baby is born and think its better, but still does not look great. After 6 months I think most people will agree that their tummy looks much better. So just try to relax, eat healthy, workout and enjoy your new bundle of joy, and we will deal with the rest if it’s needed.
