Commonly referred to as a nose job, rhinoplasty has long been one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries available. The nose is unique compared to other structures of the body as it is made up of cartilage, bone, and skin. It is a central and key component of facial balance and symmetry. 

Rhinoplasty surgery can offer a subtle or significant transformation depending on your anatomy and goals. It is often combined with a chin enhancement procedure in order to achieve a patient’s desired aesthetic. With surgery, patients can address cosmetic concerns such as bumps or depressions along the nasal bridge; nostrils that are too large, wide or uneven; disproportionate nose width or size; or a nasal tip that is too large, droops or is hooked. 

Custom ethnic rhinoplasty considers how to restructure the nose while respecting cultural identity and ethnic heritage. Our surgeons also excel in correction or revision rhinoplasty, where the nose is corrected after experiencing complications from an earlier nose surgery.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty uses dermal fillers for a more subtle improvement. Sometimes referred to as a “liquid rhinoplasty,” fillers can be used to subtly raise the nose tip or smooth a minor hump.

  • How does rhinoplasty work?

    Every rhinoplasty is customized to meet each patients’ specific needs and objectives, but there are some steps that all rhinoplasties have in common. Incisions are made within the nostrils, through which the inner bone and cartilage are reshaped into their final position. In more complex cases where Dr. Zamani and Dr. Khanna need to make more significant changes to the nasal tissue, they may make the incision below the nose across the columella – the tissue that separates the nostrils.

    The skin of the nose is then lifted, and our experts will reshape your nose by either removing excess bone or cartilage or grafting donor cartilage from the septum inside the nose, ear, or rib into the correct position. Once the desired contours are created, the nasal skin is moved back into position and the incisions are closed with sutures.

  • What can I expect with a rhinoplasty surgery?

    Most rhinoplasties are outpatient procedures – patients come in for their procedure and go home to recover on the same day. During the actual surgery, you can expect to be placed under general anesthesia. This ensures your comfort and safety throughout the procedure.

Aftercare and Recovery

While rhinoplasty recovery isn’t usually described as very painful, it can be uncomfortable for several weeks after surgery. To help protect your nose’s new internal structure, you will wear a protective splint for the first week. Bruising, swelling, and some tenderness are also common side effects. To alleviate this discomfort, our plastic surgeons may prescribe pain medications along with antibiotics to reduce swelling and prevent infection.
