Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a soft gel-like substance which mimic naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid in the skin. Dermal fillers help to reduce the appearance of facial lines and restore the volume and structure of the face. Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance your natural beauty in areas such as the lips, cheekbones and jawline.

At ICLS, our skilled team of nurse injectors would be happy to meet with you to determine the best dermal filler for your individual needs. Schedule a first-time consultation to learn more.

How Common are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a very popular non-surgical option – not just in Canada, but all around the globe.* Patients of all ages can benefit from dermal fillers and appreciate their tendency to produce subtle-yet-dramatic effects. Moreover, fillers are often incorporated into other procedures, namely cosmetic surgeries, to complement results.

What Are My Dermal Filler Options?

Depending on your cosmetic goals, our nurse injector specialists may recommend one of the following HA fillers:

JUVÉDERM®, BELOTERO® and TEOSYAL®

HA dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found within the body. In general, products made primarily of hyaluronic acid do not require allergy testing, and frequently provide patients with a natural-looking enhancement. In addition, HA fillers contain lidocaine, an aesthetic agent that can increase your comfort during the procedure.

Other options that may be chosen (or used in addition) are:

RADIESSE®

RADIESSE® is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, which are suspended in gel form.* These fillers can reduce the severity of nasolabial folds, marionette lines and other common age-related concerns. The effects of RADIESSE® can be especially long-lasting compared to those of other fillers; in many cases, patients can enjoy the results for up to two years.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is classified as a collagen stimulator. Unlike hyaluronic facial fillers, its main ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which can gradually restore fullness to facial wrinkles and folds. Sculptra® can take months to take full effect, but when the injectable is properly administered, patients can experience long-lasting, natural-looking results that may last up to two years.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The longevity of dermal filler results depends on how quickly your body processes the filler and the areas of the face where they have been used. Most injectable cosmetic fillers typically last between six to twelve months, but certain injectables – such as Sculptra® and RADIESSE® – are known to last much longer, sometimes up to two years.

Fillers are administered in a series of treatments that are tailor-made to address your goals and concerns. During your first-time consultation, we can help you develop a timeline for your dermal filler experience.

What Risks are Associated with Dermal Fillers?

When injected by a professional, dermal fillers are typically very safe; however, as with any aesthetic treatment, complications are possible. While side effects such as mild bruising, swelling and redness are quite common after dermal filler injections, more serious phenomena (e.g. infection, irritation, bleeding or asymmetry) may also occur.* With this in mind, our team will thoroughly discuss all of these risks with you prior to your treatment, and we encourage you to voice any question or concern that may arise.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Many of our patients choose to combine dermal fillers with other treatments for a more comprehensive outcome. For instance, dermal fillers can be used to complement the results of facial enhancement procedures, such as facelift or brow enhancement surgeries.*

At ICLS, we tailor your experience to meet your individual aesthetic goals. If you are curious whether a certain treatment – be it surgical or non-surgical – is right for you, we can talk about it during your consultation.

What Can I Expect After My Treatment?

While dermal fillers do not usually require extensive recovery, you may temporarily experience:

  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Swelling

In the event of a bruise or redness, topical arnica can be applied to shorten the duration of bruising. If you have a history of cold sores, please notify your nurse injector specialist so that we can potentially reduce the risk of an outbreak.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?

At ICLS, injectable filler pricing begins at $650 per syringe; Sculptra® pricing begins at $1,000. The final cost depends on your desired outcome and the treatment plan devised between you and your nurse injector specialist.

To make the financial aspect of your care as stress-free as possible, our team accepts all major forms of payment. We also partner with two reputable third-party companies, iFinance and Beautifi, which can help certain patients pay for their care through installments. Please feel free to reach out to our friendly team with any questions about these programs.
