Brachioplasty/Thigh Lifts

One of the harder areas to get rid of excess fat and hanging skin after dramatic weight loss is the arms. A drooping arm can be reduced with the aid of a brachioplasty (arm lift). For this procedure, an incision is made on the inside of the armpit down to the elbow, the redundant skin is removed and the arms are shaped into a more youthful appearance.  Though an arm lift may reduce the signs of sagging skin, the downside to most cosmetic operations is scarring, but most patients outweigh hanging skin over scarring and choose to undergo the procedure. A vitamin E cream or Dermatix, a silicone based gel, can aid in the healing process and are available for purchase at our Skin Spa. Patients may choose to undergo a scar revision to further diminish the scarring, which can include surgery and laser based therapies.

Those who wish to contour their lower bodies into a slimmer shape can benefit by having a thigh lift. A thigh lift is similar to a brachioplasty, where the surgeon will cut and remove excess skin and fat from the thighs and or buttocks and re-drape them into a better shape.  Patients who have lost weight and are between 15-20% of their ideal weight are the better candidates for this procedure.
