Coolglide laser is used for the long term reduction of blood vessels on the face. This laser uses light rather than needles to destroy the vessels without damaging the skin’s surface. This procedure provides a greater comfort level for patients with minimal down time.
Patients cannot be tanned at the time of the treatment as this can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment and cause possible pigmentation problems.
The refrigerated cool tip of the hand piece protects and cools the skin allowing the deep penetration of the laser. The haemoglobin in the blood absorbs the laser light pulse. This destroys the vessel without damaging the surrounding tissues. The body will then re–absorb the vessel, and the blood flow is re–directed through the deeper veins, where it should be. Coolglide can also be used to treat prominent vessels around the eye area.
Patients may feel a slight tingling or snapping sensation during the procedure. The Coolglide treatment will cause no bleeding or open areas on the skin. The first treatment is often the most uncomfortable, as most of the vessels are being destroyed during this visit. There are many factors that can cause un–wanted blood vessels such as age, rosacea, medications, sun exposure, genetic background, and pregnancy. All of these factors will also have an effect on the re–growth, or the appearance of new vessels, and the number of treatments that will be required. The number of treatments required can also be influenced by the depth of the vessel as well as the size and colouration. Patients should expect to be in the office for approximately 30–45 minutes.
Avoid any excessive sun exposure for 2 weeks following your treatment. A 30–60SPF sunscreen should also be worn at all times. The skin may be dry or tight around the area that has been treated and a good moisturizer is recommended.
Please feel free to visit the Skin Spa area for a complimentary skin analysis. Developing a bruise is quite rare but quite possible depending on the sensitivity of the patient. Please feel free to speak with one of the nurses regarding an anti–inflammatory/anti–microbial makeup that is available through the Skin Spa (GloMinerals).
A small bruise at the site of the treatment is rare but will resolve quickly if it does occur. If blistering or scaling appears, please contact your physician . This is a very rare occurrence and would usually resolve within a few days.
