Keloid – Hypertrophic Scars

Keloid scars are the thick, raised and “rope–like” scars that can sometimes occur at the site of injury or after surgery. Some people are more prone to developing keloid scars; however, they can sometimes develop at random. Development is normally dependent upon heredity, the type of trauma and especially the site. Keloid scars do tend to be much more common on the neck and the chest.

Keloids are treated using a triple therapy consisting of cortisone injections, treatment of the scar using either the PDL or the Cynergy followed by topical silicone gel therapy (Dermatix Si gel). After multiple treatments, the areas of keloid scarring will normally improve significantly.
