Cautery – Electrocautery

Cautery, also known as “electrocauterization” or “electrosurgery” is the process of destroying tissue with electricity and is widely used in modern surgery. The procedure is frequently used to stop bleeding of small vessels or for cutting through soft tissue. When lower voltage is used with a continuous alternating current (AC), heat is produced quickly, and tissue is completely vaporized at the tip of the probe, creating a ‘cutting’ effect. Cautery is effective in the treatment of skin tags, solar keratoses, milia and sebaceous gland hyperplasia.

To find out if cautery is right for you, please contact our knowledgeable staff at our Oakville office, between Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario for your complimentary consultation. Dr. Sheetal Sapra and our nursing staff will be able to provide you with all of the information you need to make the most informed decision.
