Botox

Some patients complain that their wrinkles cause them to look much older than they feel, or older than they really are. In addition, some people feel that their aging face miscommunicates expressions of sadness, anger or fatigue. Botox® can help to soften the appearance of wrinkles, while creating a more youthful appearance. Botox® is used mainly for the cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles in the brow, between the eyes (glabellar) and the “crow’s feet” area, which are most often referred to as “dynamic wrinkles.” Dynamic wrinkles are not present at all times, since you need to form the facial expression in order for them to appear (i.e. frowning). If these wrinkles are left untreated, they can become what are known as “static wrinkles.” Static wrinkles may be present even if you are not smiling or frowning. Botox® works by weakening the signal being passed between the brain and the muscle, causing this overly strong facial expression. Botox does not completely stop all of the movement in the areas where it is injected. It will soften lines and reduce deep wrinkles, while still allowing you to remain full of expression. As the severe pull of the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin ultimately flattens and smoothes. This approach is different than other injectable treatments such as Restylane and Juvederm, which work by “filling” or “plumping” wrinkles or deep depressions (“static wrinkles”).

Receiving Botox® injections at our clinic in Oakville, Ontario is a very simple and comfortable procedure. Botox is injected into the area of concern by either Dr. Sapra or a highly skilled and trained Nurse Injector. There is often minimal to no downtime; however, there is always a risk of getting a small bruise. The effects of Botox® are visible after approximately 5–10 days and can last for approximately 3–4 months.

To find out if Botox® treatment is right for you, please contact our knowledgeable staff at our Oakville office, between Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario for your complimentary consultation.
