Nipple – Areola Reduction
Large areolas (darker skin surrounding the nipples) can either be genetically inherited or may result from a stretching of the tissue following weight gain, pregnancy and/or breast feeding.
Areola – nipple reduction will often be performed in conjunction with other breast reshaping procedures such as breast lift or breast augmentation. However, if the breast tissue and nipple are in good position, a simple areola reduction can also be performed alone. Nipple – areola reduction surgery can be performed under a local anesthetic in our fully accredited Oakville clinic and takes approximately one hour to perform. If nipple reduction is performed in combination with another breast surgical procedure, it would be done under a general anesthetic. During the procedure, small incisions are made by the nipple or around the areola, depending on the size and shape of the area to be corrected.
To find out if nipple – areola reduction is right for you, please contact our knowledgeable staff at our Oakville office, between Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario. If you are ready to schedule for consultation, Dr. Julie Khanna is able to provide her patients with all of the information that they will need to make the most informed decision.
